That is simply not the kind of plays you expect from a freshman, and yet Zach Edwards seems to have a knack for making precisely these kind of plays. He will only get better as his understanding of coverages and passing concepts improves. This guy could be special for the Bearcats.

Shaq Washington Has Come a Long Way For The Bearcats - Down The Drive

The catches and yards are illuminating, but digging into the situational stats reveals how important Shaq has become to the offense. In 2013 UC has earned 73 first downs via the pass, Washington has been on the receiving end of 22 of those, thats 30 per cent. No one else has more than 15 firsts.

Connecticut Huskies Statistical Profile - Down The Drive

T.J. Weist was brought in to run the offense, and change it he has. The core of the scheme is based in what UC did under Butch, but UConn doesn't have the personnel to run it right. For the first time in half a decade the Huskies are passing more than they are running. The Huskies have some skill on the perimeter, Geremy Davis and Shakim Phillips have benefited the most from the change. But the change in philosophy has cratered the running game. Even with Lyle McCombs returning the running game is at a decade long low ebb.

What Will Happen: If Connecticut was going to break through, last week in East Hartford against South Florida would have been the time to do it. On the road against recharged Cincinnati will present all kinds of hurdles. The Bearcats will own both sides of the ball, giving a particularly hard time to young Boyle and his FCS-caliber supporting cast.

UConn At Cincinnati: A Capsule Look || Courant.com

UConn is 0-5 at Nippert Stadium. However, the Huskies played one of the greatest games in school history there in 2009. The Bearcats were No. 4 in the country when UConn visited on Nov. 7, 2009. Cincinnati was 8-0 and 4-0 in the Big East. UConn was 4-4 and 1-3, eventually losing 47-45. Cincy recorded 711 yards of offense and led 37-17 before UConn came back. Jordan Todman had three TDs and Robert McClain an 87-yard punt return

Good times.

Mike Foley Is Back As UConn's Offensive Line Coach || Courant.com

"He comes in and he goes, 'We're going to make this simpler,'" senior left tackle Jimmy Bennett said. 'We're going to make it so you're not going up to the line confused. ... You're going be able to be physical and be aggressive and understand the game plan a lot more. You're going to be able to hit them in the mouth.' He came in like, 'We've been playing a little soft and I'm going to try to get you guys to be more physical and we're going to hit the sled every day this week.'

UConn's Foxx Knows He Must Make Catches Or Be Passed Over || Courant.com

"We're going to have very competitive practices," said Weist, who also coaches the receivers. "We're going to have some decisions, especially offensively, and we're going to compete and put our best players on the field for a game against Cincinnati. ... The emphasis for the team is to create a more competitive situation so that we can find out what guys can really, truly make plays in some of those critical situations."

5 Keys To Cincinnati v. UConn; AAC Week 8 Predictions - Cincy on the Prowl - A Cincinnati Bearcats Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

For the first time this season offensive coordinator Eddie Gran abandoned the two-runningback system, opting to give Tion Green the bulk of the carries against Temple. He proved what kind of raw talent he truly is with a 91 yard, 2 touchdown performance. Given his rare combination of size and speed, I’d like to see the young runningback get the majority of the carries going forward. Green could become a staple for this offense in the years to come and if he keeps up this pace against UConn it would go a long way to solidifying his role on this team for the rest of his career in Cincinnati.
