Big East announces mirror games for 2011-12
The Big East has gone ahead and released each of the Basketball teams mirror games for the 2011-12 season. The verdict for the Bearcats? Not exactly great, but not exactly terrible either. The Big East clearly has placed UC in one of the top two tiers of the conference. Which one exactly? Your guess is just as good as mine. And for the record my guess is the second one. Here are the mirror games for UC this year.
Cincinnati: Villanova, Marquette, St. John’s
My preseason top 25: 19
Last season: DePaul, Georgetown, St. John’s
Finish: 26-9, 11-7 (NCAA)
The Johnnies stay on the docket for two games for another year. The Villanova games are always interesting, and should be again this year. Doubly so now that UC is no longer the scrappy upstart, but a legitimate threat to win the conference. Last but not least is Marquette, it will be just like Conference USA! Wait? You didn't like C-USA? Or the Great Midwest Conference? Oh, then I guess that going for the wistful nostalgia card just then was a mistake. Say la vie.
The Bearcats will be releasing a full Big East schedule, or maybe just a full schedule, later today. Stay tuned.

They have talent
Coming in this year yes. But they have literally no one coming back now that Polee transferred out. There is no guarantee that they will come together well. But I hope those games are earlier in the year.

I'm hoping for a weekend daytime game in Cincy myself.
But what’s with the Bearcats and the Johnnies playing each other every single year? I bet Cincy fans would prefer Louisville - is there a rivalry there?

You bet there is
But I’m betting games like Louisville and West Virginia are kept at once-a-year because they are rivalries. I’m also curious as to why UC and St. Johns were tabbed as home-and-home again.

I wouldn't be so sure.
I can only see DePaul and Providence at Carnesecca so far, but the team has played 3-4 games in Queens every year - partly because of scheduling with the Knicks and partly because of the cost of rent. Cincy’s not a huge draw, especially in comparison to Georgetwon, Villanova, Notre Dame, and Syracuse, all with big alum groups in NYC-area. And Louisville is a near-top squad, who also travel well. So that leaves West Virginia (who have generally gotten MSG games) and Cincinnati (who got an MSG game when Lance came to town).
Cincy may be good, but the economics might still force them to Queens; we’ll see! They did make the Tourney, and St. John’s is a better ticket now. Maybe only 2 MSG games…

I didn't even think about the Knicks
Safe to say that if/when the NBA announces its schedule the Knicks will have a lot more prime time/Sunday afternoon tips for national TV than they have had in a while. That is sure to throw a wrench in whatever schemes St. John’s may have. It is their arena after all.

I still remember the taco bell promotion
You had to collect all the letters from soft drink cups and win a bunch of money, needless to say, we were one letter off for the entirety of the contest even though we ate a bunch of taco bell.
