Mick Cronin's Contract Extension
There isn't a ton out there. The contract isn't accessible to the public, and I am sure as hell not going to spend my time using the freedom of information act to get it. But there are some of the basics out there courtesy of Bill Koch who actually got off his ass and did some work for a change*.
- Three more years added to the current contract which puts Mick Cronin on the Athletic Department books until 2017
- Raise in base pay for Cronin from roughly $900,000.00 to 1,250,000.00 annually.
- No real funding changes for infrastructure improvements. Anything Mick wants he has to raise the money for himself.
- No word on incentive clauses. Basketball contracts aren't usually as incentive laden as Football contracts are, but there are usually a couple things in them.
All in all Mick Cronin got enough of what he wanted to stay put. The push back from the Athletic Department made it a tense couple of days, doubly so when you consider just how much money N.C. State was willing to throw at a new coach. Regardless Cronin is in Clifton for the foreseeable future, which is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Stability is A key, not THE key
Something else we really need is for some fans to get back on the wagon and create an atmosphere of excitement. Maybe this helps to that end..
Something else I’d like to see is Mick become more marketable. The only commercial I believe he does is for a retiement home. It would be nice to see him make appearances at Reds games, make more local commericals, become more visible in and appealing to the community. For his first 5 years at the helm he has been quite boring personally. Maybe a PR or marketing firm could help him there. I don;t expect him to be Brian Kelly, but some positive PR would be nice.
Through the middle third of this season I began to wonder if his team was becoming like Mick. Teams do tend to assume the identify of their head coach, and Mick’s ID is nothing to get excited about. Granted this is not the most important thing, but it could help improve his image and the program’s.
